About psychotherapy and mental health

What is psychoanalytic psychotherapy?

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a specific type of psychological therapy that seeks to help people find greater well-being through a process of self-knowledge, in which the therapist accompanies the patient to look, feel and understand their experiences, emotions and relationships to be able to function with more personal resources and greater health.

What is a psychoanalytic psychotherapy session like?

Sessions usually last 50 minutes and are held on a regular schedule. In these regular meetings with the therapist, the main tools are dialogue and bond, framed in an environment of total confidentiality and respect.

What is the duration and frequency of a psychotherapy process?

A psychotherapy process does not have a predetermined number of sessions. The frequency and duration of the process are decided jointly between the patient and the therapist, as a result of a dialogue that collects the needs and possibilities of the patient and what the therapist deems appropriate. This duration can range from several months to a few years, and is usually twice a week.

What is the process for starting a psychoanalytic psychotherapy?

The process begins with some initial interviews, in which the therapist and the patient try to come to an initial understanding of what is going on. If psychoanalytic therapy is not the best treatment, a referral is made.
